Rivera gets record 602nd save, Yankees beat Twins

Mariano Rivera stood by himself, in the center of the diamond at Yankee Stadium.

For once, the great closer wasn’t sure what to do next.

So he smiled, blew a kiss to the crowd, and then doffed his cap as cheers washed over him following the record 602nd save of his career.

“Oh, my God, for the first time in my career, I’m on the mound alone,” Rivera said. “It was priceless. I didn’t know it could be like that.”

Rivera pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out Chris Parmelee on what appeared to be his signature cut fastball to end the New York Yankees’ 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday.

Fans from the smallest crowd in the Stadium’s three-year history stood and shouted from Rivera’s first pitch to his last as he retired Trevor Plouffe, Michael Cuddyer and Parmelee in order and broke Trevor Hoffman’s mark.

They even roared in the bottom of the eighth when Nick Swisher grounded into an inning-ending double play — and drew a loud cheer from fans who wanted to see history made at the ballpark for the second time this summer. In July, Derek Jeter got his 3,000th hit at home.

“These guys are into it,” Rivera thought to himself.

It’s a remarkable achievement, considering the slender right-hander throws mostly one pitch. Opposing hitters have seen it for years, but still haven’t figured it out.

“It’s amazing,” Cuddyer said. “You’ve got a 99 percent chance of knowing what’s coming, and he still is able to go out there and dominate.”

So good for so long, Rivera has built a Hall of Fame-caliber career and been a pillar of five World Series championship teams. The only person who might not acknowledge Rivera isn’t the best closer of all time is Rivera himself.

“You know me, I’m not like that,” Rivera said. “I like to be under the radar, do my job.”

He nearly did it outside the country. The 41-year-old Rivera tied Hoffman with save No. 601 on Saturday in Toronto. The AL East leaders lost Sunday, putting Rivera in line to get the milestone in the Yankees’ last homestand of the season.

Hoffman earned most of his saves with San Diego and retired after pitching last year with Milwaukee.

“I want to congratulate Mariano Rivera on setting the all-time saves record,” Hoffman said in a statement. “It’s a great accomplishment and he is still going strong! I have tremendous respect for Mariano not just for his on-field accomplishments, but also for his service to the community.”

On Monday, the New York crowd hollered as Rivera came in to his customary of “Enter Sandman.” The fans grew louder with every strike, every out as Rivera closed in. He even broke a bat for good measure — sawing off Parmelee and sending the rookie back to the dugout for another piece of wood.

Parmelee lasted only one more pitch. Plate umpire John Hirschbeck rung him up, and catcher Russell Martin came out to the mound, gently placed the ball in Rivera’s glove, and then gave the skinny Panamanian a big hug.

Rivera stayed and accepted congratulations — Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and finally Jeter came over to him before the bullpen and bench got there while the Twins watched from their dugout.

“I think it shows what he means to baseball, what he’s done,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “I also think it shows the class of the Minnesota Twins.”

Eventually, the Twins went back to their lockers and the Yankees did, too. That meant Rivera was left on the mound. He tried to sneak off the field with them, but longtime teammate Jorge Posada pushed him, laughing, onto the mound, where fans cheered him once again.

Trump Says Media Blackout Was Deliberate

Early History of Christmas Trees

Christmas trees have history that dates back to pre-Christianity times, and truly failed to have anything to do with the holiday of Christmas. Back then, the evergreen trees were awfully special to folk in the winter months. They might try and dress up their homes by preparing evergreen branches over windows and doors. Many believed the evergreen branches would keep out malevolent entities like spooks, hags and spirits and even some illnesses. The evergreen was a celebrated piece for their winter solstice, December 22, which was and is still the shortest day of the year.

It was thought back then the “sun god” was sick in winter. They thought that the first day of winter was an indicator the sun god was healing, because the days would begin to get longer again. The evergreen branches designated the sun would again bring the green plants back to life. Perhaps this explains why today we put Christmas trees in our houses to celebrate Xmas, but originally it had a totally different meaning. Traditional Egyptians would also celebrate winter solstice by placing green palm rushes in their houses. The Early Romans celebrated a banquet “Saturnalia” with evergreens all though their homes during the winter solstice. The Druids in Northerly Europe and the Vikings viewed evergreens as a plant made special by the sun god.

The actual start of Christmas trees came about in Germany in the 16th century. There Christians would bring in evergreen trees into their homes to brighten around Xmas time. Some of the early trees were homemade pyramids created from wood and adorned with evergreen branches and lit with candles. They believed the lights on the trees emulated the twinkling stars that were in the night skies. These trees didn’t make their way to America till the 19th century, when German settlers in Pennsylvania erected trees in their community centers. Most American citizens back then viewed the trees as a pagan symbol and refused to have them in their homes.

Christmas ornaments to adorn Christmas trees arrived in the Usa straight from Germany. Early Europeans liked to use little trees that stood a mere four feet tall, while in American the trees were so tall they touched the ceilings. The 20th century the trees were decorated with home made ornaments and popcorn strands and eventually electrical lights. Christmas trees appeared all across the lands from outside squares to most every home.

Stocks Surge On New Promises From European Leaders, Dow Adds 300 Points

German and French leaders said over the weekend that a comprehensive plan to counter the European debt crisis would be in place by the end of October, and would include considerations for assuring that banks have adequate capital.

That helped boost stocks at the opening bell in New York, even though the latest plan from Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy was lean on specifics and amounted to another pledge to stand behind Europe’s financial system, rather than a concrete roadmap for mitigating the sovereign debt crisis.

A bolder step came out of Belgium, where the government said it will take over the national subsidiary of Franco-Belgian Dexia for 4 billion and provide 90 billion in funding guarantees to buy the bank time to unload other assets.

European markets were in positive territory to varying degrees, while U.S. stocks kicked off the Columbus Day session with a bang. The light-volume session never looked back, and the Dow Jones industrial average even got a closing kick in the last 30 minutes of trading that put the 30-stock index up 330 points to close at 11,433. The S&P 500 gained 39 points to 1,195 and the Nasdaq was 87 points higher at 2,566. The bond market was closed for the holiday Monday.

While Europe’s debt crisis has been top of mind for months, concerns are also rampant that U.S. growth is crumbling. After a round of improved data last week that included an improved jobs report, the market will get more clues into the state of the domestic economy as earnings season begins. Alcoa, the first Dow component to report, is due to issue third-quarter results after the closing bell Tuesday. Shares of the aluminum producer were up 3.9%. (See “Forbes Earnings Preview: Alcoa.”)

Tyler Seguin up to speed for Bruins

There are two words the Boston Bruins’ Tyler Seguin is gracious enough to talk about, but he would rather dismiss them as hyperbole than regard them as fact.

It’s understandable that the second-year forward is continually asked about his “confidence” and how “comfortable” he is this season. It’s obvious in the early going that he’s made leaps and bounds from where he was a year ago.

Being asked about “how comfortable and confident I am is worse than hearing ‘Tyler or Taylor,’” Seguin said, referring to himself and Taylor Hall.

Leading up to the 2010 NHL draft there was an enormous amount of attention focused on whether Seguin or Hall, Tyler or Taylor, would be selected as the No. 1 overall pick. The Edmonton Oilers settled on Hall and the Bruins grabbed Seguin.

While Hall had a fine first season, the Oilers were, well, the Oilers, and Seguin and the Bruins won the Stanley Cup. Not bad for a rookie. Now that he’s in his sophomore season and has quickly proved he won’t be a disappointment, the last thing he wants to talk about is how comfortable and confident he is.

During his rookie season, Seguin averaged 17 minutes of ice time per game. Five games into the 2011-12 season, he’s already surpassed that mark three times.

Coach Claude Julien’s confidence in Seguin was apparent last week when top-line center David Krejci suffered a core injury and Julien slid Seguin into Krejci’s spot between wingers Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton. The threesome quickly meshed and has continued to work together the last two games.

Krejci skated on his own Monday morning prior to the team’s practice, but he’s doubtful to play on Tuesday against Carolina at TD Garden. Julien said Krejci is day to day.

Seguin clearly had no trouble getting up to speed with the top line, seemingly providing a glimpse at what the future could hold.

“They all have their strengths,” Julien said. “The young kid has speed and the other guy [Krejci] has vision and is a great playmaker, so it gives us an opportunity to [see] what lies ahead for Tyler and what he’s going to bring to this team down the road. He’s only going to get better and it’s certainly been an opportunity for Tyler to step in there and for us to see how he handles that. Right now he’s having a lot of success on that line.”

At Monday morning’s practice at Ristuccia Arena, the top line, with Seguin in the middle, competed as if it were a playoff game. He knows his linemates will make him better.

“They open so much for you out there and I definitely feel comfortable with those guys,” he said. “I’m actually happy to play wherever, but obviously playing on the top line has been good so far and it’s good to have those guys open up the ice for you.”

What about being confident and comfortable?

“Yeah, 100 percent,” Seguin said. “Obviously I feel more comfortable from last year and even now with more ice time I feel more confident out there.”

That was evident over the weekend against the Blackhawks when Horton notched his first goal of the season, with Seguin adding the assist. It’s been a tough go for the Bruins’ top line to start the season, but Seguin has added a spark during the absence of Krejci.

“Nathan has had a tough start to the season confidence-wise and no doubt those kind of things are good,” Julien said of the forward scoring his first goal of the season. “It was nice to see, especially what he’s been through, and even today at practice with Tyler in the middle is starting to build a little bit of chemistry. It’s interesting to watch.”

choice for the right product
The word “packaging” though looks quite small and one hardly notices its importance. But everyone should know that nothing is sold without packaging. No product come is the market without it. Either it is a small lipstick or chemicals or else any drug. Special packaging for special delicate things is also required. When we go for buying cosmetics we hardly pay any thoughts on the packaging style and packaging material. We simply buy the cosmetic and come home. Have you ever thought out of what material your cosmetic is packed with?

Sometimes it happens that the content might not be so good but the packaging is so attractive that people start buying them. Cosmetic packing removes the mess of disorderly cosmetic bags and prevents damage to the contents. There are many cosmetic packets available in small tin where the cosmetic material is already packed inside. The eye shadow, blush, powder, and lipstick or lip gloss in one hand by turning the small tins around or opening up a lid over a shared compartment. The cosmetic packaging has to be good in material because most of the woman uses it for long term and moreover they should be easy to carry while traveling also. As the cosmetics companies are speeding up day by day so are the pharmaceutical companies. Where ever you go the need for drug is nowhere to get less. Many drugs are needed to be kept aside from children, for that special kind of pharmaceutical packaging are available. It should be such that it should provide protection from environment and sun. The pharmaceutical industry has gone further to develop and introduce senior-friendly packages. Many Eco friendly packaging are coming up now days. The demand for pharmaceutical packaging is increasing 5 % annually and it will still increase with the ongoing world.

The increase in demand is due to upgraded regulations and standards concerning infection control, barrier protection, drug dispensing errors, drug diversion and patient drug compliance. Pharmaceutical packaging for oral drugs will still be done in plastic or glass bottles. It is necessary for any product to show the company’s name, date of manufacture and date of expiry. Packaging’s can be colored and printed according to the need. Cosmetic packaging is mostly printed with funky designs and colors to gain attention. Cosmetic packaging designers aren’t in great supply. But those who have worked within the industry often do so with huge success.

Rely On Best Room Heaters in India for a Cozy Evening

Who would not like to have a cozy space at home during winters in India when it is too cold to go outside and face the harsh winds and the uncomfortable weather? With a cozy room in your house you can spend the day curled up in a blanket with a hot drink in your hand and watch movies or read a nice book. For the purpose of having a cozy room in your house, you can opt for best room heaters in India. These are more affordable in comparison to a central heating system and if your room isn’t too big then room heaters are a much more viable option. If you have some elderly family members in your house then it would be a good option to opt for room heaters because elderly individuals are more sensitive to cold.

Room heaters are also a good buy for those who are cold prone because these appliances can regulate and boost the temperature in the house without overheating the place. You can research on room heater prices in India for the purpose of deciding on a particular brand to purchase. There are different kinds of room heaters available in the market such as radiant room heaters, heater-based room heaters and convection heaters. If your room is small then you wouldn’t require such any fancy heaters – a simple radiant heater would do the trick because this kind of heater simply heats the occupants in a room and their immediate surroundings. Therefore a huge amount of energy would not be wasted in heating the entire room.

If you are stuck in the dilemma of choosing between a combustion space heater and an electric heater for domestic use then you should choose an electric room heater even though it may have a higher room heater price among the two because this one is safer. Even though this may be very safe to use, it can still cause fire therefore one should take good care of it and maintain it well.

In case you require a heater for the purpose of steady heading in your bedroom or living room then going for a non-radiant heater would be a wise decision since this kind of heater utilizes oil and an electric source for the purpose of gradually heating up the place. When shopping around for a room heater in India ensure that it has an ISI mark so that you can be sure that the product is safe to use and authentic. Although an ISI marked room heater can be costlier than other traditional room heaters, it is definitely a better choice because in the long run it can save you a lot of money since it brings down the cost of electric bills.

A Diaper Pin To Secure Them

The first safety pin was accidentally discovered by an inventor simply wanting to pay off his debts. In his search, while contemplating different ideas, he twisted into a coil a piece of wire he was fiddling with. It was simple but was the start of a large industry these days. The diaper pin has been one of the results of this discovery.

This pin, made of stainless steel to be resistant to rust, has held together the baby-bottom covers of millions of babies. They are safe and feature a special way of closing and opening so that they will not open inadvertently. Babies cry for many different reasons, but being stuck with a pin should not be one of them.

The users of this handy contraption to hold the cloth covers for baby, may have decided to go natural, foregoing the convenience of disposables in which to wrap their baby’s bottom. Many others take advantage of them out of necessity, such as those far away from a place from which to purchase the throw-away diapers. These could include remote areas, whether living full time or simply camping out.

Around the world the fabric reusable diapers, either flat and foldable, or sewn pre-folded, have been used to cover little baby backsides. People in remote places most likely keep a supply of pins for the purpose of attaching the cloth to their babe. Some think that washing these baby cloths allows a large cost savings over disposables, if those that could be thrown away were even available in folks’ area.

There may come a time, if using disposable diapers, that a person might go through all of the ones available. This could be on a short trip where one didn’t plan well enough. In a pinch, borrow a t-shirt or towel and fashion it into a temporary diaper. Hopefully, the bag carrying the baby stuff needed in a day will also give up a couple of pins.

Paul has dreadful views regarding personal liberty and fundamental rights

Because Paul opposes abortion and everything done by the federal government he has proposed a bill called the We the People Act. This bill if passed would prohibit federal courts including the Supreme Court from deciding whether state or local laws violate the the right of privacy including issues of sexual practices orientation or reproduction the right to marry without regard to sex or sexual orientation where based upon equal protection of the laws.Essentially Paul wants to remove federal courts from the business of deciding whether state laws violate the federal constitution Contrary to Pauls vision of government the Constitution secures certain rights enforceable against the national government and states. The Supreme Court has an important role in protecting those rights against invasion.

In the context of fundamental rights Paul however wants to transfer this important federal judicial role to state courts exclusively. Undoubtedly many state courts would sharply curtail liberties currently recognized by the Supreme Court. Furthermore this proposal would produce a system where the substance of federal rights varied state

In addition Paul wants to repeal Roe v. Wade. Since Roe is a judicial opinion rather than a statute he really wants a constitutional amendment reversing the ruling. Regardless Pauls horrific proposals would endanger several personal liberties secured by the Constitution including the right to terminate a pregnancy. Pauls proposals show a striking disregard for the independence of federal courts Although public opinion and the actions of the political branches influence court decisions the courts do not operate as representatives of the electorate. Instead the Framers envisioned a court system that would operate as a check against unlawful action by the government.Paul however would remove a lot of substantive issues from the jurisdiction of the courts The We the People Act which Paul has proposed would also prevent the federal courts from issuing any ruling that appropriates or expends money imposes taxes. Supreme Court precedent however already prohibits courts from imposing taxes or expending money of the states. So Pauls proposal is unnecessary.

But Paul wants more than this. He also wants to prohibit any court ruling that otherwise interferes with the legislative functions or administrative discretion of the states. This sweeping passage would virtually negate judicial enforcement of federal law including the Constitution not to worry this is what makes the proposal unconstitutional. If a state passes a statute that mandated racial segregation in its public schools a decision by the Supreme Court that enjoined enforcement of that law would interfere with the legislative and administrative function of the state. It does not take much analysis to discover the danger in this proposal.
